Astro-Dictionary: Ground Level Event |
|---|
A ground level event (GLE) occurs when protons from the sun reach the Earth, penetrating the magnetosphere and atmosphere with sufficient energy to be detectable by cloud chambers and other neutron monitoring devices. These events are of special interest to the International Space Station. The astronauts sleep in special sleeping bags that can absorb most of the radiation.
