Astro-Dictionary: Airglow |
|---|
Even at dark sites in the desert, the night sky is not as black as you might expect. That's because of the naturally occurring airglow that results when elements in our atmosphere continue to interact with charged particles that had emanated from the sun during daylight hours. Atmospheric moisture in more humid parts of the country filters out this faint airglow, making the night sky appear darker, but also blocking some light from deep sky objects.
